Replace One Sugary Drink With Water Every Day For Big Health Benefits, Says Study
16 Aug 2016 --- The study, published on journal Nutrients, has shown that replacing one sugary drink per day with water can reduce caloric intake, along with the risk of obesity and other health conditions.
The consumption of sugary drinks has long been associated with many health conditions, including the increased risk of weight gain, obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
This new study looked at health data from 19,718 adults collected as part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2007 and 2012, and examined how a shift in drinking patterns effected overall health.
The researchers reported that by replacing a single 8-ounce sugar-sweetened drink with an 8-ounce serving of water, consumers could achieve a shift toward better health.
Using previously published randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses of measured weight loss, the study team saw a 35% reduction in the prevalence of obesity after replacing sugary drink with water.
The researchers suggest that their findings provide further epidemiologic evidence that water in the place of sugary beverages can be used as a strategy to limit energy intake and help individuals meet beverage intake recommendations.

Scientifically, it’s widely agreed that sugary drinks have a negative impact on health, and this recent research joins forces with many previous studies that have looked into the relationship between sugary drinks and ill health.
