Nutriventia’s Ashwagandha extract demonstrates stress-reduction efficacy ahead of SupplySide West
21 Oct 2022 --- Prolanza – a proprietary sustained-release extract of Ashwagandha root – has been shown to be safe, well tolerated and effective in managing stress in healthy adults. The Nutriventia by Inventia ingredient is unveiling a study which demonstrates that Prolanza provides superior levels of bio-actives in plasma (or human body) compared to other ashwagandha ingredients.
According to the study authors, the global prevalence of stress continues to rise steadily with more people affected. Stress adversely impacts cognitive ability, sleep quality and overall psychological well-being. Ashwagandha – an essential botanical remedy in Ayurveda – is considered beneficial in reducing stress and improving memory.
Nutriventia delayed the release of its Prolanza Efficacy and Safety of Ashwagandha Root Extract on Cognitive Functions in Healthy, Stressed Adults clinical study (published in late 2021) to allow it to coincide with the launch of the ingredient at SupplySide West 2022 in Las Vegas, US (Oct 31 – Nov 4).
“Since Nutriventia, Inventia Healthcare’s health and wellness brand, is at the cusp of science and nature, we wanted to be absolutely sure we could release the results of the Prolanza study without any hiccups,” says Anand Godbole, Nutriventia’s VP of marketing.
“We now have two Prolanza studies that have shown positive results and feel manufacturers will quickly utilize our branded ingredient in their formulations.”
Inside the study
The double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled 90-day clinical study evaluated the effect of 300 mg Prolanza ashwagandha root extract sustained-release capsule on cognitive functions, stress levels, sleep quality, overall well-being and safety in 125 adult participants reporting high stress levels.
In the Prolanza group, the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery showed significantly improved recall memory and the total error rate in recalling patterns significantly decreased at visit 4.Ashwagandha is understood as an effective stress-reduction adaptogen.
At visit 4, reduced Perceived Stress Scale score, serum cortisol levels and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score but higher Oxford Happiness Questionnaire scores were seen in the supplement group versus the placebo group, suggesting significantly lower stress levels and markedly improved psychological well-being and sleep quality in the former. No adverse events were reported.
An antidote to stress
The study authors concluded that supplementing with one 300 mg ashwagandha sustained-release capsule daily for 90 days improved memory recall, psychological well-being, sleep quality and reduced stress levels. As no adverse events were reported, Prolanza was also found to be safe and well-tolerated.
“The results of this study illuminate why ashwagandha is known as the stress-busting adaptogen,” continues Godbole. “Further, consumers who are seeking noticeable reductions in stress response will appreciate Prolanza’s sustained-release delivery, which increases the duration of its effects, safely.”
Inventia’s product development began almost four decades ago when two scientists with deep-rooted knowledge of medical sciences explored solutions to improve on generic products. Today, Nutriventia is a preferred partner to multinational and Indian transnational companies for their global requirements.
Nutriventia uses proprietary and patented processes to improve ingredients by addressing issues and concerns in manufacturing, formulation and clinical research.
The global mood and sleep market has evolved in recent years, owing mainly to increased consumer emphasis on mental well-being. We recently spoke with experts from FrieslandCampina Ingredients, PharmaLinea, Lubrizol Life Science and Gencor about emerging ingredients, consumer demand and delivery formats in this space.
