Nutritional supplementation improves pregnancy rate
A double-blind, placebo-controlled study offers dramatic results and provides an appealing alternative for women hoping to conceive.
22/06/05 A pioneering clinical study abstract on the role of nutritional supplementation in reproductive health is published this month in the peer-reviewed Journal of Women's Health (Volume 14, Issue 4). The double-blind, placebo-controlled study offers dramatic results and provides an appealing alternative for women hoping to conceive.
Conducted by investigators at the Stanford University School of Medicine, the study found a statistically significant increase in pregnancy rate following nutritional supplementation with FertilityBlend. After six months, 17 of the 53 women in the FB group were pregnant (32%), while only four of the 40 women in the placebo group were pregnant (10%). This difference is statistically significant at p less than 0.01. No negative side effects were noted.
The study's authors include Lynn Westphal, M.D., Assistant Professor in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology, and Mary Lake Polan, M.D., Ph.D., MPH, Professor and Chair of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Stanford University School of Medicine.
The study conducted on FertilityBlend(TM) is the first of its kind for a nutritional supplement in the reproductive health category. Ninety-three (93) women, age 24-42 years, who had tried unsuccessfully to conceive for 6-36 months, completed the study.
In addition to the dramatic increase in pregnancy in the FertilityBlend group, improvement was also noted in the women's mid-luteal phase progesterone levels, basal body temperatures, and cycle length, as major indicators of the body's readiness to conceive.
So far, in a similar 3-month study of FertilityBlend for Men, sperm counts have increased by an average of 55 percent, sperm motility increased by 34 percent, and sperm linearity was also significantly enhanced in the treatment group. The placebo group did not show any significant changes.
FertilityBlend for Women ingredients include chasteberry (vitex agnus-castus) -- an herb that encourages healthy ovulation; folic acid -- for the prevention of certain birth defects; green tea, vitamin E and selenium -- antioxidants that may promote reproductive wellness; L-arginine -- an essential amino acid that benefits sexual and reproductive health; plus vitamins B6 and B12, iron, magnesium and zinc -- nutrients which can be directly related to fertility health.
FertilityBlend for Men improves sperm health. Ingredients include L-carnitine -- an amino acid critical to the formation of healthy, active sperm; ferulic acid -- an antioxidant shown to improve sperm quality; vitamins C and E, green tea and selenium-antioxidants essential for overall reproductive health; plus zinc, folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12 -- nutrients involved in hormone metabolism, sperm formation and motility.
