The Nutri-Score rating is now on electronic price tags in stores, online in the webshop, and in the chain’s “AH” app. The company stated that since early 2022, over 6,000 of its Albert Heijn-brand products have been displaying Nutri-Score to help guide customers toward better and more nutritious options. The supermarket began implementing Nutri-Score for A-brand products in phases, starting with dairy, breakfast cereals, and snacks, and emphasized the importance of small, achievable steps in promoting healthier and more accessible eating for everyone.
Obesity has emerged as a major public health challenge in India, affecting all age groups and increasing the risk of non-communicable diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Driven by unhealthy diets and sedentary lifestyles, obesity rose rapidly in both urban and rural areas. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Mann Ki Baat address, called for nationwide awareness, emphasizing the importance of reduced edible oil consumption. The government has also launched initiatives like the Fit India Movement and the Eat Right India to promote healthier lifestyles. According to Modi’s administration, 24% of Indian women and 23% of Indian men were overweight, with childhood obesity also rising.
The health and nutrition organization Dietitians of Canada marked March as the Nourish to Flourish Nutrition Month and highlighted how healthy food supports health, mental well-being, and social connections. Canada’s Strengthening the Forces (STF) program provided resources like the “Essential Nutrition Course,” designed to help individuals eat well even in challenging environments. The course covered topics such as fueling the body, protein, and fiber intake, budgeting for healthy eating, and meal planning.
