NutriScience Launch New Spray Dried Lactoferrin
22 Apr 2016

22 Apr 2016 --- NutriScience Innovations LLC, a leading global supplier of nutritional ingredients and functional raw materials, has launched its newest functional specialty ingredient: Spray Dried Lactoferrin.
The company states that this will be a “new source of high purity, spray dried lactoferrin for supplements, foods and beverages.”
Lactoferrin is an iron binding glycoprotein which is naturally present in cow’s milk. It has exhibited various health benefits, and has a range of functions including iron-binding ability, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities.
Lactoferrin products which are freeze dried and milled may result in particles that are more difficult to dissolve, reducing its beneficial qualities. However, NutriScience’s spray dried Lactoferrin is easily dissolved, and thus maintains its beneficial qualities.
Test Method
NutriScience compared the solubility of Spray Dried Lactoferrin with a competitor’s freeze dried lactoferrin as an additional ingredient to both a blended infant formula base powder solution and an unblended water solution. For the infant formula solution, the two samples were dry blended at a ratio of 30 mg / 100 g with the infant formula base powder.
Results
An accredited external laboratory confirmed the following results:
In the infant formula solution, NutriScience’s Spray Dried Lactoferrin completely dissolved when blended, whereas the freeze dried lactoferrin was difficult to dissolve and had visible particles at the bottom of the solution.
In the water solution, NutriScience’s Spray Dried Lactoferrin solubilized faster compared to the freeze dried lactoferrin.

NutriScience’s non-GMO Spray Dried Lactoferrin is recovered from premium milk collected from pasture fed cows and not from by-products. A very high purity product (90% min. assay) is supplied, which provides value for money for its customers.
It is ideal for incorporation into nutritional products, supplements, infant formulas, functional foods/drinks, oral and cosmetic products, as well as tablet applications.
