Ingredion to Introduce New Whole Grain Based Satiety Ingredient
13 Nov 2013 --- Ingredion Incorporated will introduce its new whole grain based WEIGHTAIN satiety ingredient at the Supplyside West Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, November 15-16. This proprietary whole-grain-based weight management system has been shown in clinical studies to suppress hunger.
By suppressing the hunger urge, Ingredion’s proprietary WEIGHTAIN satiety ingredient is able to reduce calorie intake by about 50 to 100 calories a day. This naturally based, gluten-free weight management solution will allow food manufacturers to create a range of on-trend weight management products that will assist with calorie reduction. The new product has been shown to work well in low moisture baked goods, such as bars, soups and smoothies.
“According to research from Gallup’s satiety survey and Ingredion proprietary research, over 33% of American consumers are aware of the concept of satiety, and 45-55% are aware of foods and beverages that help them feel full for longer,” says Lorraine Niba, global director of nutrition for Ingredion. “But 22% of consumers look to whole grain-based products to help them satisfy their hunger. WEIGHTAIN satiety ingredient empowers food and supplement manufacturers to give consumers a natural, clinically substantiated choice in calorie reduction.”
Leveraging Ingredion’s unique high-amylose resistant starch, whole grain, hydrocolloids and unique composite technology, WEIGHTAIN satiety ingredient delivers on three of the most validated satiety mechanisms:
• Starch fermentation in colon triggers satiety, decreasing feelings of hunger
• Increased gastrointestinal viscosity prolongs absorption, reducing calorie consumption
• Whole grains delay digestion, reducing hunger pangs
The satiety effect of the WEIGHTAIN product has been shown in clinical studies, which validate feelings of fullness on the part of participants at 20g per eating occasion. Clinical studies also support claims of sustained energy and hunger management with the WEIGHTAIN ingredient.
The patent-protected technology:
• Primary satiety triggers: resistant starch and viscosity enhancement
• Technology enables higher resistant starch (RS), comparable (final) viscosity and lower gumminess
WEIGHTAIN can be considered across a broad range of applications:
• Smoothies
• Shakes
• Granola-type bars
• Muffins
• Soups
• Noodles
• Pasta
