IDACE Welcomes Broad Institutional Agreement on PARNUTs Review

20 Nov 2012 --- IDACE, the association representing the EU specialised nutrition industry, has congratulated the European institutions on the broad agreement reached on the revision of the EU specialised foods framework (also known as PARNUTs).

"We also remind the institutions that amendments to general food law will be required to accommodate categories of foods that will unfortunately fall out of the scope of the existing PARNUTs Regulation, in order to continue to take into account the particular nature of these products which are used by consumers with specific dietary needs.”

Since the launch of negotiations, EU decision makers have made important strides on this complex dossier, and cooperated in order to provide appropriate legal solutions for various categories of vulnerable consumers including coeliac patients, obese and overweight consumers, athletes, premature and low birth weight infants, as well as infants aged 12-36 months.
