Horizon Milling's GrainWise Wheat Aleurone Prototypes Highlight Potential

24/01/08 Horizon Milling, a joint venture between CHS Inc. and Cargill, has developed three new prototypes that demonstrate how food manufacturers can easily incorporate a concentrated source of essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants into great-tasting snacks, cereals and bars using all-natural GrainWise Wheat Aleurone.

GrainWise Wheat Aleurone is a concentrated source of essential vitamins, including thiamin, niacin and folic acid; and important minerals, including phosphorus, magnesium, iron and zinc. It includes antioxidants from whole wheat and contains 45 percent dietary fiber.

"It can be challenging for food manufacturers to develop all-natural products that also are rich with nutrients," said Kyle Marinkovich, marketing manager, Horizon Milling. "Because GrainWise  Wheat Aleurone is both all-natural and packed with nutrition, it's a great way to enrich consumer products while still remaining all-natural."

According to Marinkovich, today's consumers are looking to get maximum benefits from their food, and simply because a product is labeled "all-natural" doesn't necessarily mean it has a broad nutritional profile. "GrainWise  Wheat Aleurone helps our customers deliver maximum value to consumers who seek concentrated nutrition in their all-natural foods," he said.
 
The following three prototypes are new examples of how food manufacturers can use GrainWise  Wheat Aleruone to enhance the nutrition profile of their products.

All-natural GrainWise cereal flakes. Consumers are looking for cereals that are increasingly nutritious while remaining all-natural. These flakes help manufacturers deliver both benefits (which are key business growth drivers in the ready-to-eat cereal category) in a great-tasting cereal the whole family can enjoy. The flakes are an excellent source of fiber; the essential antioxidant nutrients manganese and selenium; phosphorus and magnesium. In addition, the flakes are a good source of iron, thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6 and copper.
 
GrainWise  bar with fiber and protein. The bar category is expected to continue to grow as consumers seek out extra nutrition, portability and convenience from bars. This bar provides those attributes plus the combination of protein and fiber to help satisfy consumers' appetites between meals. It is an excellent source of vitamin E and copper, and a good source of fiber, protein, niacin, phosphorus and magnesium.
 
All-natural GrainWise  puffed snack. "Better-for-you" is a key purchase driver in consumer snacks today as people seek healthier alternatives to traditional snack offerings.
