Growing Consumer Interest in Nutrition to Aid Beauty
17 Feb 2015 --- US citizens are increasingly turning to better diets to improve appearance as well as health, according to dermatology experts.
There is a growing awareness of nutrition for skin health and beauty in America, according to the American Academy of Dermatology; and the most frequently chosen items include vitamins, marine proteins, vitamins and carotenoids, the consumption of which are believed to aid beauty and skin health.
“Many dermatologists are involved in ground-breaking research exploring the benefits of nutri-cosmetics to the skin, said clinical assistant professor of dermatology, Dr Patricia Farris MD, of Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans. “While the science behind nutrition, supplementation and the skin is still evolving, research suggests a diet high in antioxidants and healthy fats and low in sugars, refined carbohydrates and bad fats may help the skin look younger.”
One study has indicated that daily supplementation of collagen peptides can significantly reduce eye wrinkle depth in just eight weeks, according to reports.
Meanwhile, other studies have shown diets high in vitamin C and linoleic acid, while also low in fat and carbohydrate, may lead to fewer wrinkles and age-related dryness.
Studies have also linked the consumption of certain foods and probiotics to UV ray damage prevention.
