Gnubiotics Sciences and ADM team up for feline and canine nutrition
09 May 2022 --- Microbiome pioneer Gnubiotics Sciences is entering a strategic partnership agreement with global human and animal nutrition company ADM. The deal focuses on commercializing microbiome solutions to support the health and well-being of pets, including cats and dogs.
Yemi Adesokan, CEO and co-founder, Gnubiotics says: “This strategic partnership with ADM is a major accomplishment for Gnubiotics as it represents the validation of our science and technology. We are glad to collaborate with ADM to continue to develop and bring to market data-driven microbiome-targeted solutions.”
“We’re excited about this partnership with Gnubiotics and the capabilities they bring, enabling pet parents to better understand their pets’ microbiome,” adds Gustavo Zenaide, vice president of ADM Pet & Animal Well-being.
“With this knowledge, ADM can leverage its comprehensive pantry of pet and animal well-being solutions to improve individual pet health through precise nutrition and supplementation.”
Pet owners are often willing to go above and beyond to ensure the health of their furry family members. This latest partnership builds on ADM’s broader growth strategy for microbiome platforms this year, which has included research into expanding microbiome applications in e-gaming platforms.
Animal microbiome research is just as important
As more is being discovered about the impact of gut health on overall wellbeing for humans, similar strides are being made for animals.
Gnubiotics stresses that the gut microbiome is essential to the health and well-being of household pets.
The Switzerland-based biotech company supports this with its own data showing that Gnubiotics’ animal milk oligosaccharides (AMOs) protect the canine microbiome from the negative side effects of antibiotics.
In 2021, Gnubiotics announced patents on microbiome-based biomarkers to predict, diagnose and treat feline obesity, a major cause of diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
Agitating the animal space
Increasing attention is being paid by industry toward innovating within the category of companion animal nutrition. Previously, NutritionInsight highlighted how nootropic and adaptogenic supplements for dogs were rising on the market, echoing similar industry demands for mood and brain-boosting supplements for human benefit.
To fill gaps within the feline and canine health space, in 2020, Pet Direct Wellness launched mushroom-boosted supplements touted as potentially preventing cancer in household pets.
