Gencor and Pharmako Biotechnologies secure HydroCurc patent for cognition
Gencor and Pharmako Biotechnologies reveal the companies have received a patent for HydroCurc, an award-winning cold-water dispersible curcumin. The newly secured patent, titled “Liquid Dispersible Curcuminoid Compositions and Methods of Improving Cognitive Function,” highlights the ingredient’s ability to boost bioavailability and elevate serum levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
The companies emphasize that HydroCurc’s improved efficacy stems from Pharmako’s proprietary LipiSperse technology, which increases the dispersion of lipophilic compounds in aqueous environments.
By converting the powder surface from lipophilic to hydrophilic, LipiSperse allows HydroCurc to deliver 90% of its active ingredient. The companies point out that this innovation enables seamless integration into various formats, including powders, tablets, capsules, gels, sachets, effervescents, drinks, and shots.
“This is the first study to demonstrate that an orally taken, highly bioavailable curcumin coupled with iron was able to increase BDNF,” explains George Kokkinis, CEO and Founder of Pharmako Biotechnologies. “BDNF is a protein that plays a critical role in the development, growth, and maintenance of neurons in the brain.”
The role of BDNF
According to Kokkinis, BDNF is a key regulator of neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to reorganize by forming new neural connections. Research highlights BDNF as essential for cognitive function, supporting learning, memory, and overall brain adaptability.
Additionally, BDNF aids neural growth by promoting the survival of existing neurons while fostering the formation of new pathways and synapses. Its impact extends to mental well-being, as low BDNF levels have been linked to conditions such as depression and anxiety.
Moreover, research reveals that increasing BDNF may enhance mood and improve cognitive performance, highlighting its significance in brain health.
Expanding markets
The companies state that the newly issued patent underscores that HydroCurc’s cognitive benefits are further amplified when combined with an iron supplement. This combination offers a novel approach to brain health optimization.
Additionally, HydroCurc’s clinical validity extends beyond cognitive function, supporting joint health, sports recovery, and overall wellness.
The companies stress that this technology addresses the longstanding bioavailability challenges of curcumin and unlocks new possibilities for functional nutrition and pharmaceutical applications.
