Fenchem Seeks Seeks Novel Foods Approval for Astaxanthin Product
23 May 2014 --- Fenchem has applied for a version of Astaxanthin to be granted Novel Food ingredient status in EU. The application is substantial equivalence of an Astaxanthin-Rich Extract of Haematococcus pluvialis algae (AstaMarin) with the existing Astaxanthin Products.
The Federal Office of Consumer Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has received the application and will look over the dossier next days.
Fenchem intends to market AstaMarin (5%) in the EU for use in the dietary supplements. AstaMarin is an oleoresin of the common green algae Haematococcus pluvialis, extracted from the dried algal biomass with supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2).
