DSM to spotlight microalgae, immune health and nutrition across life stages at Vitafoods 2023
24 Apr 2023 --- Ahead of this year’s Vitafoods expo in Geneva, Switzerland (May 9-11), NutritionInsight speaks with DSM about immune health and environmental sustainability in different nutrition segments targeting various consumer groups, while discussing other focuses the company has at the show.
“We will be showcasing products that support more sustainable nutrition in several ways, such as our plant-based solutions. In maternal nutrition, we will spotlight life’s DHA SF 55 – a sustainable algal-sourced omega 3 docosahexaenoic acids (DHA) that do not impact the marine environment,” says DSM.
“Similarly, our dietary supplements team will highlight life’s OMEGA – another algal-sourced solution providing the health benefits of eicosapentaenoic acid and DHA.
Microalgae for the planet
By switching from fish-sourced to algal-sourced omega 3 reduces the strain on ocean resources caused by overfishing, the company details. It outlines it is also driving greener product development through innovative packaging and format technologies.
Immunity remains a key health concern for consumers, stresses DSM.“To meet the needs of an increasingly environmentally-conscious consumer base, we’re actively looking into developing sustainable products such as our microalgae-based life’s OMEGA and sustainable packaging solutions,” DSM tells us.
Even though the environmental focus is on the rise, immunity remains a key health concern for consumers.
At the show, DSM will present its consumer-inspired, market-ready solutions for immunity – such as our calcifediol product ampli-D, “which has been demonstrated to deliver the benefits of the sunshine vitamin faster and more efficiently,” notes the company.
Microalgae have recently been highlighted for their multiple benefits, being packed with nutrition, low in environmental resource use and a potential contributor to a circular economy.
Nutrition throughout life
DSM also tells us about its products targeting people for all stages throughout life, starting with Metafolin, a readily bioavailable form of folate easily absorbed by the body and supports a healthy pregnancy.
Furthermore, its early life nutrition team will present Life’s DHA SF 55 – a high-potency solution that enables the equivalent dose of DHA in a smaller capsule to ensure that consumers receive targeted health benefits in a single, more convenient format.
“Life’s DHA SF 55 is also the only commercially-available 550 mg per g natural triglyceride DHA and has no impact on our oceans,” the company underscores.
DSM also supports consumers’ health across the life stages, and dietary supplements bring multiple health benefits, including immunity, sports performance, sleep and mood.
“We will also spotlight our latest concept to support mobility as we age, CanolaPRO -- a protein source derived from canola (or rapeseed) that has a higher nutritional value and enhanced amino acid profile compared to other plant-based proteins on the market and champions healthy aging,” DSM tells us.
A multi-ingredient approach
Additionally, DSM further details its newly launched Health from the Gut (HfG) platform, which will also be showcased at Vitafoods 2023.DSM will showcase its products targeting health across life stages and multi-functional dietary supplements.
“Our science-backed and multi-ingredient approach to Health from the Gut goes beyond boosting levels of ‘good’ bacteria and helps brands harness holistic health benefits by supporting and preserving the key pillars of a healthy microbial ecosystem to maintain its natural balance.”
DSM further argues that the HfG platform is powered by combinations of proven, gut-supporting ingredients, custom solutions such as premix and market-ready solutions and services to help brands get ahead and stay ahead in the market.
A growing awareness of gut health going beyond digestion benefits is powered by increasing evidence and growing interest from the global scientific community creating space for innovative gut-focused solutions that look beyond digestion to support health more holistically.
“Our Health from the Gut platform is perfectly placed to help brands thrive in this market with unmatched scientific expertise, multi-ingredient solutions and appealing concepts that address the needs of consumers today and tomorrow.”
Vitafoods 2023 is the perfect opportunity to share our latest findings and help brands leverage these insights to create immunity-supporting products consumers want.
