Chr. Hansen Presents its Life Gel Concept at Vitafoods Europe 2015
23 Apr 2015 --- Chr. Hansen plans to present its Life Gel technology at this year’s Vitafoods Europe in Geneva, Switzerland.
The company claims the technology is the world’s first soft gel solution that can sustain live probiotics for two years on the shelf. The concept, which has been designed for the natural dietary supplements market, combines probiotics and Omega-3 in the popular soft gel dosage form.
Charlotte Beyerholm, Marketing Manager (Human Health & Nutrition Division), told Nutrition Insight: “Life Gel is the technology of keeping the probiotics alive in a soft gel – normally soft gels are produced at very high temperature and high humidity – two things which normally kills live probiotics. The development of Life Gel makes it possible to keep the probiotics alive."
To demonstrate how Life Gel can be used to target a specific market segment, Chr Hansen has also developed Mother’s 1st, a solution for pregnant and lactating women. Mother’s 1st uses this technology to bring benefits to mother and baby in one soft gel," she explains.
“Mother’s 1st contains BB-12 and DHA, which convey five key benefits for mother and baby,” says Beyerholm. These benefits include areas such as supporting the immune system and replenishing the mother with vital DHA. For the baby, the product supplies DHA for brain development and it also promotes vision development.
At the end of shelf life, this white-colored soft gel contains 1 billion of the world’s best-documented bifidobacteria, Chr. Hansen’s probiotic strain named BB-12, and 250 mg of DHA.
Beyerholm said: “We are very proud of Mother’s 1st and we are looking forward to discussing its many benefits with potential partners at Vitafoods”.
At a seminar on May 6, Chr. Hansen will present the LIFE GEL technology platform and its many business opportunities:
Apart from LIFE GEL, Chr. Hansen will also be showcasing its many innovative product concepts, such as probiotic oil drops for infants and young children, probiotic shots for gastrointestinal function and regularity, and various combination products.
