Arla Launch New Whey Protein Coffee
21 Nov 2016 --- Arla Foods Ingredients' have revealed a new whey protein ice coffee concept, with hopes of tapping into the demand for RTD beverages that can be enjoyed on the go.
The company describes the drink as a “refreshing whey protein iced coffee drink that builds the muscles, strengthens the bones and boosts the brain,” and is the latest product concept to emerge from the Arla Foods Ingredients innovation pipeline.
Designed to capture the busy urban consumer market, the solution delivers 20g of whey protein from Lacprodan DI-7017 per 350ml serving, which contributes to the building and maintenance of muscle mass and function.
Its content of naturally occurring caffeine from real coffee beans is similar to one to two cups of espresso, and the solution is also a source of calcium and phosphorous thanks to the inclusion of Capolac milk minerals, which contribute to normal muscle function and neurotransmission and are needed for the maintenance of normal bone health.
The launch comes at a time when the categories for iced coffee RTDs and beverages rich in protein are rapidly developing. According to Innova Market Insights, the number of newly launched iced coffee RTDs grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.4% between 2012 and 2015.
During the same period, the number of new beverages launched with a ‘high protein’ claim increased at a CAGR of 34%.
Peter Schouw Andersen, Head of Science & Sales Development at Arla Foods Ingredients, said: “Today’s consumers are increasingly looking for delicious, healthy and convenient foods with functional benefits, which will help them maintain a healthy body and an active mind.”
“A high-quality protein and calcium beverage – such as our whey protein iced coffee concept – satisfies those needs in a way that consumers can enjoy while on the go.”
The new whey protein iced coffee has been developed as part of Arla Foods Ingredients’ latest marketing campaign, which is called “Whey Better Protein”, aiming to highlight how whey protein solutions offer multiple application and nutrition benefits and can enable food and beverage companies to benefit from emerging trends by entering new categories that are growing quickly.
The whey protein iced coffee will be available to see and try at the forthcoming Health Ingredients Europe trade show, which takes place in Frankfurt from 29 November to 1 December 2016.
