Age of Nature: dsm-firmenich and Indena partner to develop botanical solutions for human health
26 Oct 2023 --- Seeing a continued consumer interest in botanicals supported by science, dsm-firmenich and Indena is launching a strategic partnership to develop effective natural solutions for immunity, vision, healthy aging, women’s health, brain and gut health. The partners aim to inspire a “new age of nature” to drive the future of nutraceuticals.
Focusing on market-ready solutions in the short term, the partners also state their intention to develop new products in origin, ingredient combination and formulation in the medium and long term.
Martin Dos Ramos, global vice president of dietary supplements at dsm-firmenich, notes that science is at the core of the partnership between both companies.
“Indena has long been a pioneer in the research and development of botanical derivatives,” he notes. “When combined with our premix and market-ready solutions, flavor, taste masking and product formulation expertise, we are ideally placed to help take our customers’ innovations to the next level.”
Daniele Giavini, managing director at Indena, adds: “Already in the next few months, our collaboration will bring products onto the market that combine and enhance the effectiveness of technologically advanced botanical extracts and ingredients from both companies.”
Future-proof natural ingredients
The partners note promising research results on the positive benefits of botanicals, which they plan to use in developing and marketing new products.
Giavini asserts that today’s savvy consumer “requires increasingly smarter products in terms of ingredients as well as formulation.”
“We want to launch a medium- and long-term planning process to build solutions that are not yet existing: solutions devised to respond to the increasingly sophisticated demands of a public wishing to take care of their well-being with products that are scientifically studied, clinically tested and technologically ground-breaking, for proven effectiveness.”
The partners will focus on developing effective, science-backed products aligned to relevant health needs.Dos Ramos adds that in growing consumer demand for botanicals, the partnership will directly address the “market need for effective, science-backed products aligned to the most relevant health needs.”
Research increasingly indicates the benefits of botanicals and their extracts in food products that meet consumer demand for healthier and environmentally friendly food options.
Sustainable development
In addition, both companies highlight their commitment to driving progress toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. They explain that all projects within the partnership aim to put sustainability first, covering raw materials sourcing up to production and marketing.
Projects will focus on environmental impact, use of renewable energy and building a more circular economy.
Other than solutions specifically selected for the partnership, Indena and dsm-firmenich will proceed entirely independently.
Earlier this year, dsm-firmenich revealed the first audited results of its progress toward addressing urgent societal and environmental challenges linked to food production and consumption.
