Webinar preview: AB-Biotics and Kaneka Probiotics on probiotic innovation in menopause care
Key takeaways
- In an upcoming webinar, AB-Biotics and Kaneka Probiotics will present Gyntima/KABP Menopause, a three-strain blend that supports hormonal balance in menopausal women.
- It is the first clinically proven probiotic formula designed to modulate estrogen levels by targeting the estrobolome, a key regulator of estrogen metabolism.
- A 2024 clinical trial demonstrated that Gyntima Menopause helps maintain stable estrone and estradiol levels.
Amid growing demand for non-hormonal solutions in menopause care, AB-Biotics and Kaneka Probiotics spotlight a three-strain, science-backed probiotic with a targeted action on the estrobolome, a key regulator of estrogen metabolism.
Ahead of the companies’ webinar, “Probiotic Innovation in Menopause: Expert Perspectives and Clinical Evidence,” Nutrition Insight meets with one of the speakers to learn about the estrobolome and the latest clinical evidence for their innovative probiotic formulation, Gyntima/KABP Menopause.
“This is the first — and to our knowledge, the only — probiotic formula clinically proven to modulate estrogen levels in menopausal women, helping to slow down the natural decline that occurs after menopause,” says Marta Perez, Ph.D., senior scientific project manager at AB-Biotics.
“Unlike other probiotics, it was specifically developed for this indication using a top-down approach. Each strain was selected for its ability to reactivate estrogens in the gut through β-glucuronidase activity and to reduce inflammation, directly targeting the root cause of hormonal imbalance rather than just addressing symptoms.”
Gyntima/KABP Menopause contains a blend of Levilactobacillus brevis KABP 052, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum KABP 051, and Pediococcus acidilactici KABP 021. The probiotic helps to increase estrogen recycling in the gut, increasing serum estrogen levels.

Targeting the estrobolome
The estrobolome is a subset of gut bacteria that helps regulate estrogen levels in the body, explains Perez.
“During menopause, the diversity of the gut microbiota declines, which impacts the estrobolome and disrupts estrogen metabolism, contributing to hormonal imbalance. At the same time, falling estrogen levels weaken the intestinal barrier and increase inflammation and gut permeability — often referred to as ‘leaky gut.’”
The probiotic blend modulates estrogen levels in menopausal women, helping to slow down the natural decline that occurs after menopause. She notes that this combination can worsen menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and has also been linked to bone mineral loss and systemic inflammation. “Therefore, supporting the gut microbiota and estrobolome is a key emerging strategy in menopause care.”
Perez points to a clinical trial published in 2024, which showed that Gyntima Menopause helped maintain estrogen levels in peri- and postmenopausal women.
“After 12 weeks of supplementation, women in the probiotic group maintained significantly higher levels of estrone and estradiol than the placebo group,” she details. “This is the first clinical evidence that a β-glucuronidase-active probiotic can naturally support estrogen balance, addressing a key underlying mechanism of menopausal symptoms.”
Demand for non-hormonal solutions
The webinar will feature the insights of a gynecologist and expert in women’s microbiota, Franco Vicariotto, MD. He will share the latest discoveries on the gut-hormone connection during menopause and innovative microbiome-based strategies to improve well-being in this stage of life.
“Menopause care is rapidly evolving, gaining greater recognition, and women are increasingly demanding personalized, scientifically validated solutions,” notes Perez. “There is a growing demand for safe, non-hormonal alternatives to traditional hormone replacement therapy.”
Meanwhile, she underscores that Gyntima Menopause does not introduce external estrogen and thus avoids the associated risks.
“Instead, it supports the body’s natural ability to recycle its estrogen, gently helping maintain levels closer to those seen during reproductive years. This allows women to manage menopausal symptoms effectively while avoiding the side effects.”
Perez believes the probiotic formulation represents a new generation of care by offering a natural, clinically proven approach that supports hormonal balance, improves gut health, and helps reduce symptoms. “Ultimately, it empowers women to navigate menopause with confidence and vitality.”
