C3 Complex Curcumin and Omega 3 Have Synergistic Effect
28 Oct 2016 --- Sabinsa’s Curcumin C3 Complex is an excellent complementary supplement to Omega-3 fatty acids, according to multiple studies conducted over several years.
Curcumin, a well-recognized anti-inflammatory agent, and Omega-3 acids are known precursors of several biosynthetic inflammatory resolvers, and both are enjoying growth in the nutritional supplement sector.
According to Innova Market Insights data, the number of product launches containing curcumin in the immune health supplement category is 17% higher in the first 10 months of 2016, compared to the whole of 2015. Curcumin product launches are also up 11.5% in the joint health supplement category over the same time period.
The number of product launches containing Omega 3 is also strong, with the digestive health and liver category showing 5% growth from 2015 to 2016YOYTD.
Sabinsa say that recent studies have shown that together, it’s Curcumin C3 Complex and Omega-3 acids can work in tandem to bring about relief under situations where inflammation can cause damage.
They state their researchers have studied use of this combination over several years, and as early as 2009, it was found that C3 Complex attenuates muscle wasting (known as cachexia) that usually accompanies certain disease conditions.
Recent mechanistic studies revealed that the synergistic effect of C3 Complex and Eicosapentaenoic acid, an Omega3 component, against the depredations caused by both TNF-α and PIF (Proteolysisinducing Factor) by ameliorating protein synthesis and halting protein degradation.
Animal experiments presented in Experimental Biology Meeting 2016, San Diego showed a clear synergy in action in reducing cancer cachexia in MAC-16 colon tumor-bearing mice. This combination Omega-3 EPA and C3 Complex is also expected to attenuate weight loss caused by health conditions, and improve quality of life.
“Curcumin and Omega 3’s have become staples of many consumer’s dietary supplement regimen in recent years, making it beneficial to know how the combination of the two work together,” said Shaheen Majeed, Sabinsa Marketing Director.
“While these results are exciting, they apply to C3 Complex only. We can’t speculate that the same benefits would be found with other brands of Curcumin, given the many very different forms on the market.”
