The role for probiotics and prebiotics in addressing metabolic health syndrome remains on the rise. “Some of the most recent studies focused on metabolic health and the effect on things like diabetes, weight management and more. That is where we see a lot of interest. A recent study involved more than 400 studies given probiotics for more than 6 months. If you look at the build-up of fat mass, you see a significant loss in both the probiotic group and another where probiotics are combined with polydextrose,” says Anders Henriksson of DuPont Health & Nutrition, who presented at the Vitafoods Asia conference on this study.
