“Inside-out” beauty: Exploring the latest nutricosmetic trends and innovations

The ingestible beauty market is undergoing a transformation, driven by growing consumer demand for holistic, science-backed solutions that support beauty from within. Once considered a niche category, supplements targeting skin, hair, and nail health have become mainstream, fueled by rising interest in wellness, clean beauty, and personalized nutrition.

Also, consumers are increasingly aware of the connection between internal health and external appearance, prompting a surge in demand for products that deliver visible results through clinically supported ingredients. Nutrition Insight sits down with experts from Balchem Human Nutrition & Health, Nexira, Seppic, and Sirio to discuss the latest nutricosmetic innovations and trends.

Innova Market Insights’ data suggests that 37% of consumers now take supplements daily for beauty and skin care purposes, with 63% citing skin health as their top motivation. There was also a 12% increase in hair, skin, and nail supplement launches from April 2020 to March 2025.

Leslie Lannebere, global marketing for health at Nexira, says the company has noticed four key trends in the ingestible beauty space.

“Health consciousness (beauty linked to wellness), a holistic mindset (beauty integrated with overall well-being), edible appeal (demand for convenient formats like gummies and powders), and a focus on healthy aging and self-care (prioritizing looking healthy over just young),” she explains.

“Nexira adapts by offering natural, science-backed solutions like Oli-Ola [a nutricosmetic based on organic olive fruit extract] that support these trends, focusing on beauty-from-within for external radiance, and providing versatile, easy-to-use ingredients.”

Virginie Grenier, the nutrition marketing manager at Seppic, states that the market is undergoing an evolution and points to three major trends — “personalization, holistic care, and foodification.”

At the same time, Sirio Europe points out that hydration is becoming a key factor for beauty-from-within solutions, while Balchem Human Nutrition & Health highlights the rise of the “inside-out beauty philosophy.”

“Inside-out” beauty

Expanding the beauty-from-within topic, Jessica Arnaly, senior marketing and business development manager at Balchem Human Nutrition & Health, affirms beauty routines have evolved beyond topical products and consumers are increasingly focusing on nourishing the body from the inside out.

“More people — both men and women — are recognizing the link between outward appearance and internal health, embracing an ‘inside-out’ beauty philosophy,” Arnaly highlights. “Ingestible beauty solutions like supplements and fortified foods have gone from being a nice-to-have to essential tools as part of this more holistic approach to wellness.”

She adds that modern beauty consumers want more than just support for skin, hair, and nails — they’re seeking multifunctional solutions that pair aesthetic benefits with added value, like gut health, mental well-being, and joint mobility.

“Take the glass skin craze, for example — this trend, born in Korea and celebrated worldwide, continues to thrive,” Arnaly explains. “Social media channels continue to be flooded with posts about new solutions that can help achieve dewy, luminous skin that appears almost translucent, but this trend is more than skin-deep — it reflects a broader movement towards prioritizing a healthy and well-nourished skin barrier.”

“Product launches highlighting an increased focus on repairing, strengthening, and maintaining the skin’s natural protective layer and ingredients such as collagen, antioxidant vitamins, and probiotics leading the charge.” 

Moreover, she says the growing popularity of GLP-1 medications for weight loss is also influencing the ingestible beauty space. These treatments have fueled discussions around skin health, as significant and rapid weight loss can negatively impact skin elasticity and barrier function — leading to visible side effects commonly referred to online as “Ozempic face.”

Nature’s nutricosmetics

Lannebere at Nexira says that the company’s latest innovation, Oli-Ola, is a completely natural extract derived from olive fruit. She adds that it is packed with antioxidants, such as hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol, which support skin health. A standout feature is its sustainable production — Nexira utilizes upcycled olive oil byproducts, converting waste into a high-value, environmentally friendly active ingredient.Balchem Human Health & Nutrition highlights that men and women alike are embracing an ‘inside-out’ beauty philosophy.

She underscores that Oli-Ola is backed by advanced nutrigenomic research and strong clinical evidence. The company’s proprietary In-Test-Pass model research revealed a 59% reduction in oxidative stress markers and an upregulation of antioxidant defense genes in skin samples. An initial clinical study conducted in Brazil in 2017 also showed significant improvement in dark-spot lightening after 60 days of use.

Also, in a recent placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 132 women, Oli-Ola demonstrated compelling results after 12 weeks. This includes a 13% improvement in skin elasticity, a 12% reduction in trans-epidermal water loss, and visible enhancements in skin radiance, hydration, and clarity.

Sara Lesina, the general manager of Sirio Europe, highlights the need for hydration, which she says is increasingly viewed as essential to overall wellness, though only a small portion of consumers say they feel sufficiently hydrated. She adds that with 64% of consumers now linking hydration to overall health, demand is rising for products that support both internal hydration and skin health.

She illustrates that holistic care is becoming increasingly important as consumers look for products that support both inner well-being and outer beauty. The results show that Sepibliss enhances skin comfort and promotes calmness, relaxation, and a “more positive self-perception.”

Also, the growing trend of “foodification” — infusing beauty benefits into enjoyable food and drink — continues to gain momentum.
