26 Feb 2015 --- This week Ministers in the UK outlined details of the new GCSE in food and nutrition, which will be available to school children across the country.
As part of this course, pupils will be able to learn how to fillet a fish, make a hollandaise sauce and learn methods such as blanching, poaching and braising. They will also be able to learn how to make fresh pasta, choux pastry and other baked goods.
The new GCSE was announced last year, along with other additional courses available to school children, including a GCSE in Citizenship.
The Nutrition course aims to teach students practical cooking skills as well as promoting healthy living. The course will take a scientific approach, so that teens can learn about how diet and nutrition and health are linked. They will also understand the impact of a poor diet, as well as diet-related illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease.
