Tech Paper from Fortitech Explores Opportunities in Heart Health
16 Feb 2017 --- Fortitech has released its latest tech paper, “Strategic Nutrition for Heart Health,” exploring the major causes of heart disease, market drivers, heart disease demographics and in-demand vitamins that can help support a healthy heart.
The tech paper from Fortitech Premixes’ claims to offer additional, valuable consumer insights and tips on key nutrient combinations for manufacturers.
The report details, that according to the WHO, approximately 17.5 million people died from CVDs in 2012, representing 31% of all deaths – three in every ten.
By 2030, almost 23.6 million people will die from CVDs, mainly from heart disease and stroke.
It’s also projected that by 2030, over 40% of the US population will have some form of cardiovascular disease, the disease that it projected to remain the single leading causes of death.
Fortitech’s report states a recent DSM health concerns survey found that 30% of the participants consider nutrition as the most important factor to address their concerns, whereas 24% report taking dietary/food supplements to improve their heart health.
The survey results also found that consumers are relatively well aware of the important role of nutrients on health.
Looking at the key nutrients related to heart health, most consumers are most aware of vitamin D (67%), followed by vitamin C (64%), omega-3s (53%) and vitamin E (49%).
In a separate study, it was indicated that a quarter of global consumers are concerned about individual cardiovascular-related risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes, and around 4 in 5 are interested in foods and beverages that improve heart health.
One in three Americans, particularly older men, are interested in purchasing food with cardiovascular benefits.
As adequate nutrition is critical for maintaining optimal body function, including heart health, consumers seem to care “whole heartedly” for products and nutritional supplements that support heart health.
