Taiyo Launches New Iron Fortification for Baby Foods
Because SunActive Fe-P80L meets the iron fortification levels required by European labelling regulations, and has received EFSA approval under Article 13, manufacturers can improve the nutritional value of baby food formulations and their label declaration.
29 May 2012 --- Taiyo GmbH has launched a new, highly bioavailable iron fortification ingredient at Vitafoods 2012. SunActive Fe-P80L is an EFSA-approved ingredient, specially developed for use in baby foods.
Designed to be non-irritant to the stomach and clean-tasting, SunActive Fe-P80L is stable in manufacture and does not affect the taste or appearance of the finished product. This comes as good news for baby food manufacturers, following a recent study that the micro-nutrient content of ready-made baby foods could contain less than a fifth of the recommended daily supply of minerals including iron. Because SunActive Fe-P80L meets the iron fortification levels required by European labelling regulations, and has received EFSA approval under Article 13, manufacturers can improve the nutritional value of baby food formulations and their label declaration.
Many iron sources that exhibit bioavailability adversely affect the taste and appearance of the finished product by accelerating oxidation, which can cause irritation in the gastrointestinal tract. Taiyo’s SunActive Fe range disperses insoluble, highly bioavailable iron in formulations without affecting the finished product or causing irritation in the body.
SunActive Fe-P80L and other products from Taiyo’s portfolio are available throughout Europe via Taiyo GmbH – the European subsidiary of Taiyo Kagaku, based in Germany.
