Symrise unveils pet nutrition brand with single-source animal proteins
19 Jul 2023 --- Symrise Pet Food has transformed its nutrition ingredients brand from Nutrios to Nuvin to grow and advance sustainability for the complete offering of egg, chicken, hydrolyzed proteins and health solutions.
The move signifies the company’s intention to “strategically strengthen its pet food offering” for its customers. It also reinforces Symrise’s Taste, Nutrition & Health segment’s positioning in the pet food sector.
“The initial brand served us well in establishing a footing in the global marketplace. It also helped us set the tone for our authoritative position in quality, safety, and sustainability,” says John Tiedeman, general manager for the nutrition business line at Symrise Pet Food.
“Now, Nuvin picks up where Nutrios leaves off. This reflects our determination to elevate the existing brand equity with greater innovation as we move into an intensified strategic phase of growth and vitality.”
Inheriting functional ingredients
The renewed brand inherits a strong portfolio in natural pet nutrition featuring egg in the form of Ovalin nutritional products and OvaBind, which binds and emulsifies ingredients for functional applications.
Symrise’s Pepti’One hydrolysates come from single-source animal proteins. Premium-quality chicken protein, broth and fat for dry and wet formulations are included in the portfolio. Nuvin has been developed using all-natural, foundational ingredients. For customers that want to premium offerings, the R&D team can create nutritious and functional solutions to improve pet health and wellness.
Industry strides
Discoveries in the gut-brain axis are taking pet nutrition to the next level. Scientific evidence is increasingly suggesting that “super fats” in dogs’ diets can prolong the length and quality of the animal’s life, according to US-based dog nutrition brand Yumwoof.
With continuous pressures on supply chains, Symrise aims to pioneer side-stream upcycling, providing markets with access to more significant quantities of ingredients while preserving resources. The company’s goal is “doing more with less,” it aims to achieve circularity with ingredients such as chicken and banana peel to extract the total value of its natural raw materials, which also serves the pet food sector.
Meanwhile, Beneo unveiled its pet nutrition toolbox for manufacturers and producers, featuring vital wheat gluten for texture and rice- and fava bean-based protein concentrates for growth. According to the company, each offering provides specific nutritional and technical benefits and can be incorporated into wet and dry formulations to meet the growing plant-based and hybrid pet food trends.
