Roelmi HPC’s nutraceutical for relaxation reduces cortisol levels and improves mood

29 Jun 2023 --- Italy-based Roelmi Health and Personal Care (HPC) unveils its new supplement SelectSIEVE Zen – a nutraceutical for mood improvement and mental relaxation targeting anxiety and stress. 

“It helps to induce calmness and relaxation, increasing GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) circulation and working on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, reducing cortisol release. It improves memory and neuroplasticity (inhibition of Ach-T) and promotes a positive mood thanks to the reduction of MAO (Monoamine oxidase) activity,” a spokesperson from Roelmi HPC tells Nutrition Insight.

“It favors the cognitive function through the antioxidant activity exerted in the neurons. The ingredient was tested in a neural cell model to evaluate the activity on HPA (hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis) and the support in the body to answer stress.”

Cortisol reduction
According to the spokesperson, the supplement was found to reduce cortisol levels in neural cells by 89% in 30 minutes and more than 95% in the first two hours, while it increased the endorphin release.

The company further details that the increased level of endorphins is associated with a positive modulation of mood, while cortisol is the hormone symbol of stress. 

“The right cortisol balance is essential for health, but in a stressed period, this is overproduced and maintains the brain in a constant alert. In fact, unbalanced cortisol outputs can lead to physiological changes and cause unwanted symptoms such as anxiety, depression, fatigue and many others.”

SelectSIEVE Zen was found to reduce cortisol levels in neural cells by 89% in 30 minutes and more than 95% in the first two hours.Roelmi HPC conducted a study with 26 healthy volunteers aged between 20 and 50 years old, with a perceived stress condition in daily life, with a standard dose of 300 mg daily. SelectSIEVE Zen enhanced “psychological status,” such as improving mood and vigor while reducing anxiety and stress levels. 

It was also found to improve sleep quality by reducing the time falling asleep and the number of times the participants woke up at night. 

Mental health at 360°
The company explains that an engineering technology represented by a specific molecular sieve is put in place to obtain a comprehensive portfolio of health dietary supplements pillars by respecting and preserving the ecosystem. 

A set of soft processes allows it to select a pool of compounds with specific biological benefits.

The nutraceuticals’ active molecules work on the modulation of biochemical pathways involved in the body to respond to stress, reduce cortisol release and increase endorphins production.The supplement was also found to improve sleep quality.

“These activities induce a positive modulation of mood, reducing anxiety, tension and anger while improving vigor and serenity, which also promotes a beneficial effect on sleep quality.”

Down to ingredients
SelectSIEVE Zen derives from a technological process involving several production techniques to create a whole complex of phytonutrients for a targeted application, explains the spokesperson and details basil, lemon balm and elderberry.

“Holy basil, vertical farming and 100% made in Italy allow the design of high purity and integrity of the phyto-complex [a mixture of active and inactive plant molecules]. This innovative farming technology has a reduced environmental impact.”

Also highlighted is lemon balm, which grows in Dolomiti, the Italian mountains.

Lastly, the elderberry comes from the north European forest, where they are harvested and immediately processed to preserve the integrity of polyphenols, details Roelmi HPC.
