Raley's and Organic Bistro Give Diabetics Healthy Solutions
Organic Bistro Whole Life Meals were developed by a registered dietician, gourmet chef and naturopathic physician specifically to provide delicious and balanced meals for people with a busy lifestyle.
20/03/08 Raley’s Family of Fine Stores and Organic Bistro Whole Life Meals are joining forces to provide free classes, resources and healthy products for people living with diabetes.
Raley’s Corporate Dietitian Earline Griffith, R.D. started classes and Raley’s store tours specific to the needs of diabetic customers. Diabetes affects 21 million people in the U.S. and about 7-10 percent of the population in California alone. Given these statistics, Raley’s and Organic Bistro are taking a proactive role in helping shoppers make better, more healthful lifestyle choices – in and out of the grocery aisle.
“With so many nutritious offerings in our Natural Foods and Fresh Produce departments, we want to provide customers fighting diabetes with resources and realistic meal solutions, so that achieving a healthy lifestyle is convenient for our customers,” said Griffith.
In support of Raley’s efforts to reach out to Northern California’s diabetic population, Organic Bistro is supplying each class with literature, handouts and coupons for their healthy, delicious and convenient frozen entrée products which are available at select Raley’s, Bel Air Markets and Nob Hill Foods stores.
Organic Bistro Whole Life Meals were developed by a registered dietician, gourmet chef and naturopathic physician specifically to provide delicious and balanced meals for people with a busy lifestyle. All meals are developed on the principles of low glycemic index and load, which are measures for how quickly foods turn into sugar, thus a help to diabetics. Organic Bistro meals contain only whole grains, lean proteins, at least three ounces of vegetables and are low in sodium. “It’s what we put in, not what we leave out that sets our meals apart from any others in the freezer case,” says founder, CEO and chief of product development Laryn Callaway, N.D.
Griffith’s next class, ‘Eating Better with Diabetes’ is on Wednesday, April 9 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Raley’s store in Placerville (located at 166 Placerville Drive). All classes are free to the public yet reservations in advance are encouraged. To sign up for the next class or to learn more about Earline’s programs for diabetics, email wellness@raleys.com.
