Probiotics: Not Just Any Bacteria Will Do
EFSA’s current review of health claims is increasing the awareness about documentation across the European nutraceutical industry.
01/05/09 At this year’s Vitafoods trade show for the nutraceutical industry Chr. Hansen will be exhibiting probiotics for human health indications areas such as gastro-intestinal health, immune health and women's health.
“Although probiotic products have been marketed for decades we’re still observing some confusion regarding probiotics,” says Charlotte Beyerholm, Marketing Manager, Health & Nutrition Division, Chr. Hansen prior to this year’s Vitafoods event taking place in Geneva, Switzerland May 5-7. “With our ‘Not just any bacteria will do’ agenda for Vitafoods we will be explaining why Chr. Hansen is promoting probiotics on strain level.”
“In short, Chr. Hansen agrees with leading researchers and associations, e.g. the International Probiotics Association and WHO, who advocate that probiotic health benefits are related to the bacteria strain, not the genus or species,” explains Beyerholm.

Customers can choose between multiple dosage forms (blends, capsules, chewables, sticks, etc.) for their products. “Visitors at our stand will have the chance to see and taste our newly launched probiotic sticks and chewable tablets,” Beyerholm says.
Chr. Hansen supplies probiotics which have a documented effect.
