Proactive joint health: Voltaren’s innovative solutions for pain relief and mobility
25 Oct 2023 --- Voltaren, a brand of Haleon, recently unveiled two non-prescription pain supplements for joint health and mobility. According to the company, the products utilize natural and science-backed ingredients to protect joint tissue and cartilage, promote healthy inflammatory responses after exercise and support healthy aging.
Innova Market Insights’ data suggest that product launches related to joint health in the food and beverage (F&B) industry and the supplement sector grew 15% over the last five years (2018-2022). Among these launches, supplements took the lead, accounting for 84% in 2022.
Nutrition Insight sits down with Christine Andrews, senior research and development director at Haleon, about the company’s latest multi-market innovations.
“Joint health dietary supplements from Voltaren will provide support for those looking to proactively maintain their joint health as they age, offering an effective joint support solution for consumers at all stages,” says Andrews. “These innovations support our brand’s commitment to supporting joint health and helping consumers feel the joy of movement.”
“Voltaren Arthritis Pain Gel has been a leader in providing joint pain relief for over ten years, and we wanted to offer a solution with our dietary supplements line to provide proactive support to help consumers maintain healthy bones and joints as they age, so they can continue to experience the joy of movement. We are uniquely positioned to support healthy joints, and we are excited to provide consumers with a once-daily dietary supplement to help them age healthfully.”
Comforting curcumin
Andrews highlights that the Joint Comfort & Movement Dietary Supplement includes turmeric — known for its antioxidant properties — and Boswellia, which has been shown to aid in mobility. These components work together to actively support mobility and flexibility, promoting comfortable movement.
Innova Market Insights’ data suggest that the annual growth of functional F&B featuring claims related to healthy aging reached 14% globally from 2018 to 2022. Moreover, the Innova Trends 2023 Survey reveals that nearly one in three consumers begin taking deliberate measures to age healthily once they reach the age of 30.
“These two ingredients help proactively promote mobility and flexibility for comfortable movement,” Andrews explains. “Both unique formulations are drug-free, gluten-free and contain essential nutrients to support joint health.”
“Turmeric contains a principal bioactive substance called curcumin. Curcumin is a polyphenol with antioxidant properties that help reduce oxidative stress and protect against cell damage. Together, turmeric and Boswellia can help proactively promote mobility and flexibility for comfortable movement.”
Utilizing undenatured collagen
The company’s second offering utilizes Lonza’s science-backed collagen ingredient, which has been shown to speak to multiple markets, including the healthy aging, active nutrition and sports nutrition spaces.
“The Joint Health & Bone Strength dietary supplement is formulated with UC-II Undenatured Type II Collagen that works to protect joint tissue and helps the body maintain the cartilage it naturally loses with age,” Andrews spotlights. “It also contains calcium and vitamin D to help support and maintain strong, healthy bones.”
“Both Joint Comfort & Movement and Joint Health & Bone Strength Dietary Supplements are evaluated and certified to the NSF/ANSI 173 Standard for Dietary Supplements in the US,” she concludes. “These products are uniquely crafted with purposeful combinations of scientifically studied ingredients.”
