POLARIS Achieves Friend of the Earth Certification for Inchi Oil
24 Mar 2015 --- POLARIS Inca Inchi Oil has been certified Friend of the Earth. POLARIS, which also obtained Friend of the Sea certification for its marine oils range of products in 2010, is a major producer of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
The Inca Inchi (Plukenetia volúbilis linneo) is a plant originating from the Peruvian Amazon region, which has been known to the natives for several thousand years. Inca Inchi seeds produce a unique and exceptional oil with a very characteristic taste of bean pods. The seeds come from a fully integrated chain from the planting to the oil and are guaranteed without use of chemicals.
No natural ecosystem was destroyed for cultivating of Inca Inchi. No pesticides are used and some producers are organic certified. The organisation has defined goals, management and conservation strategies for soil. No irrigation is required as plants grow exclusively on rainwater.
The producer as well as Polaris have full compliance with Social Accountability requirements. In addition, the positive economic return has helped improve farmers’ living standard.
"Social accountability and environmental conservation are core values for POLARIS," comments Véronique Sancéau, Marketing manager at POLARIS. "In this sense we believe Friend of the Earth certification represents another important recognition for our company, following Friend of the Sea certification”.
