NZMP and Maypro enter retail agreement to supply HN001 and HN019 probiotics to North America
28 Mar 2022 --- Maypro is now an authorized retailer of NZMP’s BifidoB HN019 and LactoB HN001 probiotic strains in North America, as well as other strains in development.
“Our partnership with Maypro enables more potential US customers to access our probiotics more easily and complements our global experience with deeper local market expertise,” Chris Ireland, senior business development manager at NZMP, tells NutritionInsight.
“This agreement is important to brands looking to develop new products with health claims in mood, stress, anxiety, skin health, digestive health and immunity.”
“This agreement will allow us to extend our sales force and harness Maypro’s supplement customer network,” he adds.
Maypro can now supply NZMP’s BifidoB HN019 and LactoB HN001 to customers immediately. The ingredients supplier will draw on NZMP’s clinical evidence and experience in probiotics to provide clients with a range of viable solutions in the face of ongoing supply chain issues.
Probiotic demand rises
The partnership comes at a time when there is rising consumer demand for probiotic products, according to NZMP. According to a consumer survey, the proportion of North American consumers who stated they purchased probiotic products in the previous twelve months increased from 45% to 61% between 2018 and 2020.
“Our consumer research shows that approximately one in three US consumers turns to probiotics for digestive health issues, while one in five uses probiotics to support their immunity or manage stress levels,” says Ireland.
“This makes probiotics one of the top ingredients that US consumers turn to, to address common health concerns, often behind vitamin and mineral supplements.”
To meet the growing demand for probiotic ingredients in China, ADM partnered with Qingdao Vland Biotech Group.
Also emphasizing the increase in probiotic demand, Innova Market Insights probiotics were the top subcategory of worldwide sports nutrition and supplement launches monitored with probiotics in 2020.
Lactobacillus acidophilus (46%) was the most common probiotic ingredient in 2020, followed by Lactobacillus rhamnosus (31%).
Zoning in on the “super strains”
According to NZMP, the BifidoB HN019 and LactoB HN001 probiotics are regarded as super-strains since they have been thoroughly examined with over 60 combined human clinical trials, making them among the most extensively studied strains in humans.
In North America, NZMP’s BifidoB HN019 and LactoB HN001 probiotic strains in clinical studies have shown health benefits that include digestive health, immunity, skin health, women’s health and post-natal depression alleviation.
NZMP’s probiotic strains have demonstrated strong stability in various applications, including capsules and sachets, yogurts, ice creams, chocolate and coatings and high-pressure processed juices.
NZMP can assist North American customers with export objectives through its global network, covering 14 international sites and serving customers in over 130 countries.
NZMP previously partnered with Sun Genomics to research the potential of Sun Genomics’ personalized supplement brand Floré. Additionally, NZMP also expanded its probiotics into the functional food market in North America.
