Nutriventia’s turmeric extract boasts effective absorption and superior pharmacokinetics, according to study
18 Oct 2021 --- India-based Nutriventia is highlighting that 250 mg of its TurmXTRA 60N product could be equal in benefits to 1575 mg of turmeric extract containing 95% curcuminoids, as backed by a recent study.
The ingredient is a water-dispersible turmeric extract containing 60% curcuminoids. The research suggests its absorption allows consumers to reap the benefits in one dose, as opposed to taking three different pills.
“This study is enlightening in that it demonstrates a priority attribute for consumers The active compounds are more efficiently available in the body apart from the enhanced convenience of a reduced dose – one pill instead of three for an efficacious dose,” Anand Godbole, assistant vice president of marketing and strategy for Nutriventia, says.
Absorption still a challenge for turmeric industry
Turmeric, which contains curcuminoids, has become an increasingly popular herb to help consumers manage their health. It has a range of benefits, including neuroprotective potential.
Nonetheless, its absorption is difficult, which has caused industry to be innovative in finding new ways to better optimize the ingredient’s therapeutic qualities.
“Turmeric is inherently challenging to process, and its therapeutic utility is limited due to the inherent low bioavailability of its active constituents,” Godbole notes.
One capsule with almost ten times more curcuminoids than 95% extract
The study, published in the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, used 14 health subjects. It compared one 250 mg capsule of TurmXTRA 60N containing 150 mg of curcuminoids to 1575 mg of turmeric extract standardized to 95%.
According to the company, the study revealed that one capsule of TurmXTRA could be bioequivalent with 1575 mg of turmeric extract containing 95% curcuminoids.
The ingredient also has an optimized higher absorption and comparable exposure for free curcumin, total curcumin and total curcuminoids from a ten-fold lower dose of curcuminoids than STE95 (500 mg curcuminoids), Godbole says.
Earlier this year, Nutriventia carried out a separate study on TurmXTRA 60N, which found that the turmeric ingredient can improve post-workout joint pain. Taking 250 mg once a day for three months was found to effectively improve joint comfort, performance and mobility in healthy adults.
