New Study Reveals Wide Range of Health Benefits For Soluble Fiber Brand Sunfiber
01 Jul 2016 --- A new study conducted by Taiyo has found a beneficial relationship between the consumption of the soluble fiber product, Sunfiber, with glucose intolerance and high levels of cholesterol and abdominal fat.
Sunfiber is a natural soluble powder that can be added to foods, beverages and supplements without impacting the flavor, color, texture or aroma. It is also gluten-free, vegetarian and non-GMO.
The study, conducted by researchers at the Nutrition Division of Taiyo Kagaku Co., Ltd. investigated the effects of partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG), a key ingredient in Sunfiber, on 12 healthy individuals, including those who were glucose-intolerant.
Each participant consumed 6 grams of PHGG with each meal for three consecutive months without modifying their diet, lifestyle or exercise habits. The study revealed a 40 - 50% reduction in postprandial plasma glucose concentration, benefits related to Cholesterol, and a positive influence on inflammatory markers.
The study also suggested that consumption of the product could aid body weight reduction and a decrease in abdominal fat.
Scott Smith, VP of Taiyo told NutritionInsight: “Our customers are continually showing a growing interest in Sunfiber over other fibers due to both the physiological benefits that Sunfiber offers, as well as the lack of negatives that are associated with most fiber products.”
Smith explains: “Sunfiber is a ‘true regulating’ fiber in that it not only helps with occasional constipation, but uniquely helps with diarrhoea as well, returning stool content to a normal healthy state.”
Smith added, “It’s well tolerated and does not lead to the typical bloating, cramping and gas production that other fibers are known for with daily consumption.”
Smith also explains that the product has had many of its health claims approved by health officials around the world. “Recently Taiyo worked with Health Canada and received approved health claims for Sunfiber related to its effectiveness in reducing postprandial glucose levels, treating symptoms of IBS, as well as its ability to relieve intestinal issues related to childhood constipation.”
He also added, “Japan has also approved claims that Sunfiber helps to improve intestinal regularity and also that is helps to control blood sugar levels.”
With approved health claims already in the bag, the future looks bright for the Sunfiber brand. Smith explains that there’s more opportunity for further health claim approvals, adding, “Taiyo continues to work with local regulatory agencies to achieve qualified health claims not just for our ingredient, but also for our customers’ products.”
New US FDA fiber definitions have provided even further opportunities and advantages for Sunfiber as a dietary fiber.
