Nestlé unveils bioactive nutrient blend for muscle health
Nestlé unveils Muscle Repair+, a science-backed blend of the vitamin B-related nutrients nicotinamide and pyridoxine. The company says the offering is designed to support post-exercise recovery. The new bioactive nutritional supplement targets accelerated muscle repair and stem cell activity.
Exercise can strain skeletal muscle fibers, causing soreness and fatigue, Nestlé highlights. Negative impacts on training and performance can happen if the body does not properly repair and rebuild its muscles after exercising, making muscle recovery an essential part of any type of fitness routine.
“Skeletal muscles rely on local stem cells for repair and regeneration after exercise or injury,” highlights Dr. Jérôme Feige, senior expert in musculoskeletal health at Nestlé Research.
“We screened over 50,000 natural molecules and identified that nicotinamide and pyridoxine can work together to activate these cells and help muscles regenerate faster and recover more strength.”
Bioactive nutrient blend
The Nestlé researchers published their study on the bioactive blend of nutrients in the Journal of Clinical Investigation in collaboration with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique — Institut NeuroMyoGène in Lyon, France, and other external partners.

“Consumers increasingly understand the essential role that good nutrition plays in any muscle recovery strategy,” says Eugenia Oton, head of research and development for Nestlé Health Science. “This bioactive supplement underscores our commitment to developing nutritional solutions for specific health needs that are backed by verifiable science.”
Muscle Repair+ is a science-backed blend of the vitamin B-related nutrients nicotinamide and pyridoxine. The nicotinamide and pyridoxine bioactive blend was clinically tested on participants for muscle regeneration following a period of intense exercise.
These scientific findings built up the launch of Muscle Repair+ in the US under Nestlé Health Science’s Pure Encapsulations brand. The innovation adds to Nestlé’s growing body of research around science-based nutritional solutions to support muscle health, including age-related muscle loss and physical fatigue.
The research was completed in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen. The clinical findings were presented at the International Biochemistry of Exercise Conference, the EMBO muscle biology conference, and the Society for Muscle Biology conference.
Activities in sports nutrition
Nestlé says its latest innovation is designed to support physically active adults and athletes alike. This comes at a time when industry experts emphasize that precision sports nutrition products, like performance proteins, are expanding to a wider consumer base.
Nutrition Insight recently caught up with representatives from Giellepi, Tirlán, Gelita, Gencor, and Arla Foods Ingredients to discuss how innovation in this space has been evolving with new co-branded flavor collaborations with iconic food brands, advanced delivery technologies for superior absorption, and e-sports tailored nutrition.
In other recent activities, the US FDA issued an approval letter regarding the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status of Solabia Nutrition’s two flagship ingredients derived from sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) grown in Europe for use in dietary supplements, functional foods, and beverages.
Meanwhile, Gnosis by Lesaffre published “first-of-its-kind” clinical results supporting its landmark ingredient, Landkind Pure Salidroside, designed to boost exercise performance. Salidroside is the bioactive compound in Rhodiola rosea, an adaptogen traditionally taken to support energy and stress resilience.
