The new pyramid icon, released by the United States Department of Agriculture, takes healthy oils from the "eat sparingly" section at the top of the old pyramid, and moves it into the yellow colored fats and oils section included in each of the new, individualized pyramids. This dramatic shift shows that healthy oils should be included as a part of a healthy, balanced diet.
Research from the Harvard School of Public Health has consistently shown that reducing saturated fat and eliminating trans fat from the diet could significantly reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. According to their estimates, reducing trans fat in the diet could save approximately 30,000 premature coronary heart deaths every year. They also estimate that by replacing two percent of energy from trans fats in the diet with energy from non-hydrogenated, unsaturated fats, coronary heart disease risk would be reduced by 53 percent. That's a large decrease in risk when one considers that more than half a million Americans die each year from coronary heart disease.
Natreon(TM) was developed by conventional plant breeding techniques and is a non-genetically modified product. In addition to its health attributes, fry studies have shown that Natreon canola oil outperforms partially hydrogenated soybean oil in stability, fry life, reduced polar compound formation, and important sensory attributes.
