LycoRed get GRAS status for LycoMato powder in US
GRAS status opens the doors for this ingredient to be used to fortify foods with tomato lycopene.
LycoMato Powder contains lycopene plus other beneficial tomato phytonutrients including other carotenoids and tocopherols. These antioxidant phytonutrients, acting in synergy with lycopene, transform an ordinary food into a functional food with numerous health benefits, including the support of cardiovascular and prostate health and prevention of DNA damage.
LycoMato Powder, besides adding health benefits to food, can be used as a natural red colorant in a variety of foods such as soy meat substitute products, pasta, cereals and smoothie drinks.
“It is with great satisfaction that we can now add LycoMato Powder to our list of GRAS products. This greatly expands our capability within the food and beverage industry. We strongly believe that fortification of foods with tomato lycopene will greatly contribute to the appeal of otherwise ordinary food products,” stated Dr. Zohar Nir, Vice President of Marketing at LycoRed.
LycoRed offers the industry the only natural tomato lycopene ingredients for food use. Food technologists in the United States are considering LycoMato as a tomato lycopene source in numerous categories including breads, cereals, beverages and processed meats. Dr. Nir stated, “We have had great success in the U.S. dietary supplement industry with LycoMato oleoresin, and the LycoMato Powder has been warmly welcomed by consumers in Europe and Japan. We fully anticipate that the use of the powder form will match the success of the oleoresin in the U.S. dietary supplement industry and will follow the path of success that we are seeing emerge in the food industry abroad.”
