Lycored eyes increased output capacity with new US facility
17 Jan 2022 --- Lycored has opened a new processing plant in New Jersey, US, which is set to maximize both the quantity and quality of its ingredients. The global wellness company will be using the facility for its carotenoids, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and real food ingredients.
“This was a necessary response to the growing demand we’re seeing for carotenoid ingredients, in particular in the field of beauty-from-within, but also areas like immunity. It will help us maximize the purity, efficacy and shelf-stability of our ingredients,” Zev Ziegler, head of global brand and marketing, health, Lycored, tells NutritionInsight.
“Our Branchburg facility boasts formidable milling and blending proficiency with state-of-the-art technology. It allows us to optimize nutrient efficacy and bioavailability while providing innovative formulations perfectly tailored to our customers’ requirements,” says Shirley Cohen, Lycored CEO.
The plant is slated to enable Lycored to maximize the purity, efficacy and shelf-stability of its ingredients while exponentially increasing output capacity. The company’s motto in the announcement is “when you prioritize quality in every step of the journey, all health breaks loose.”
Opportunities in technology
The processing facility provides advanced capabilities for milling, blending, drying and coating, with extensive opportunities for customization. In addition, the site features an application lab and production line supporting taste application development.
“These technologies allow us to craft custom coating and layering systems that optimize nutrient efficacy and bioavailability while protecting them for maximum shelf stability,” the company notes.
“The first steps for any of our products are the careful extraction of raw ingredients to ensure maximum potency and quality and then creating the right mix of synergistic compounds to elevate their effects,” Lycored adds.
Streamlining quality nutrients
The Branchburg facility is FDA-registered, cGMP-complaint and NSF-certified. It is allergen-free, with temperature- and humidity-controlled environments.
Lycored’s new plant follows a previous multi-million dollar move to double its lycopene production. The three-year investment targeted new lines, equipment as well as process and supply optimization strategies in a bid to harvest “record volumes” of tomatoes.
Sustainable production
The company highlights it has invested heavily in a vertically integrated system to carefully control the entire journey from seed to supplement for its key products. Lycored notes it has taken a number of steps to “dramatically reduce waste and preserve resources.”
Some of the measures include reduced reliance on energy and transportation, AI-powered planting and harvesting systems, as well as single-solvent tomato oleoresin extraction that reduces water use.
This allows Lycored to maximize wellness and efficacy, minimize waste and take care of the earth along the way, it underscores.
Companies across industry are moving toward greater sustainability. DSM recently announced its business restructure, committing to a series of new quantifiable measures targeting sustainability. Chr. Hansen also launched a new program aiming to reduce its carbon footprint by 2030.
