11 May 2010 --- Krill specialist, Aker BioMarine, Norway, and Lipogen, Israel, pioneer producer of the functional cognitive ingredient phosphatidylserine (PS), have joined forces to develop an innovative phospholipids formula for cognitive health. The target formula is a unique matrix of Lipogen PS phosphatidylserine produced from Aker BioMarine’s pure Superba Krill Oil.
“This new ingredient will combine two clinically tested ingredients, Lipogen PS and our pure Superba Krill Oil” says Matts Johansen, Executive Vice President at Aker BioMarine. “Especially within brain health market, we see great potential for this new formula. ”
Phosphatidylserine (PS) and omega-3 fatty acids are both key components of the brain’s cell membranes. The new ingredient could either be applied together with multivitamins or as a single ingredient targeting brain health.
“Lipogen is proud to join forces with Aker BioMarine to develop this premium ingredient” says David Rutenberg, CEO of Lipogen. “PS acts synergistically with omega-3 fatty acids to increase cognitive abilities, supporting memory, mood, concentration, stress control and other cognitive functions.”
Lipogen PS, a natural brain ingredient, received affirmed GRAS status (FDA “no questions”) in 2006 and is a clinically proven nutritional supplement. It is designed to boost cognitive ability in adults whose cognitive function is slowing down due to age-related decline in memory and other cognition areas, as detailed in two qualified, FDA health claims.
Aker BioMarine’s Superba Krill Oil, a lipid extract from the crustacean Antarctic Krill (Euphausia superba), is rich in omega-3 phospholipids and the powerful antioxidant astaxanthin. Studies have demonstrated that omega-3 fatty acids from Superba Krill Oil are incorporated more efficiently into cell membranes than triglycerides omega-3s from fish oil.
