Layn Natural Ingredients unveils bioactive antioxidant flavonoid for dosage efficiency
23 Sep 2022 --- US-based Layn Natural Ingredients is launching a natural antioxidant flavonoid called bio+Quercetin, which it touts as a “highly bioavailable form of quercetin for nutraceutical use.” The flavonoid is extracted from Sophora Japonica, and has the potential to support the industry transition to bioavailable products.
“The exceptional bioavailability of bio+Quercitrin enables dietary supplement brands to significantly reduce the amount of ingredient in each dosage, reducing raw material costs, and providing reliable and efficacious dosage in a smaller pill size, with less gastrointestinal issues commonly experienced with Quercetin supplements,” the company notes.
Additionally, it “scavenges free radicals and manages oxidative stress.”
Its ribose molecules make it more absorbable and penetrable in the small intestine. The flavonoid makes the body’s realization of quercetin faster and complete.
Supporting areas
The company highlights that quercetin is one of the most studied flavonoids for health and wellness support, with more than 10,000 published studies behind it. The compound has also shown to exhibit bioavailability challenges inhibiting its full potential for health support within the body.
IsoQuercetin, a potent natural antioxidant flavonoid, has shown support for immune, heart, joint and gut health, as well as allergies, healthy aging, inflammatory response and cellular support. The compound is mainly found in onions, capers, yellow fruits and vegetables.
“We have recently seen interest in quercetin as consumers and brands have discovered its potential health benefits, which can provide multifaceted health support,” says Jim Roza, chief scientific officer at Layn, US.
“Recognizing the bioavailability challenges manufacturers have faced with regular quercetin, we are pleased to provide bio+Quercitrin as a new highly-bioavailable ingredient in our portfolio.”
Stable, soluble and bioavailable
The company says that the new product may replace regular quercetin as it can be used in many formats due to its stand-alone capabilities, such as capsules, gummies, bars, powders, tablets, softgels and liquid shots.
“Bioavailability is a measure of how much active ingredient gets absorbed into the body and reaches its intended target so an ingredient’s health benefits can be realized,” adds the company.
Previously, flavonoids have been shown to improve blood pressure through the gut, according to the American Heart Association.
“Unlike many other food constituents, flavonoids are predominantly metabolized in the gut – suggesting that the gut microbiome may be more important in enhancing their biological activity than for other things we eat,” Dr. Aedín Cassidy, lead investigator of the study, previously told NutritionInsight.
Flavonoids have also been highlighted in supplements for healthy aging and heart health benefits.
