03 Apr 2014 --- The US Food and Drug Administration has recently proposed new updates to the ‘Nutrition Facts’ label on food packaging.
The proposed changes, which have been backed by First Lady Michelle Obama, will now require packaging to declare the percentage of potassium - a mineral important for the regulation of blood pressure.
Parts of the US population are not getting enough potassium in their diet, which is putting them at risk of chronic disease. Kudos Blends has developed KUDOS Potassium Bicarbonate, an alternative to sodium bicarbonate in order to reduce sodium in chemically leavened baked goods whilst also increasing the potassium content.
In light of the proposed changes to the labels, KUDOS Potassium Bicarbonate will be an ideal product to use to make healthier changes to baked goods and contribute to healthier diets. Specific grades of the product can be used to increase potassium intake without compromising end product characteristics such as taste, texture or quality.
