Kemin acquires functional ingredient company GLF Ingredienti Alimentari
27 Feb 2024 --- Kemin Industry’s latest acquisition of Italy-based GLF Ingredienti Alimentari will boost its functional ingredient technology and extensive application know-how, strengthening its position in the meat industry in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
The acquisition adds functional blends and yield enhancement technology to Kemin Food Technologies’ portfolio, boosting its product offerings with high application know-how and technical service.
“This acquisition marks a significant milestone in our strategic growth plan as Kemin looks to expand our products and services offering in meat applications in the EMEA region,” says David Raveyre, group president of Kemin Industries.
Ready-to-use solutions
GLF will impart its extensive application knowledge, which produces innovative, cost-effective and ready-to-use solutions. Kemin will continue to build its network in Italy while growing its offering across EMEA and its global food business. Kemin will integrate GLF’s operations into its existing EMEA business structure as part of the acquisition.
“We will leverage our combined strengths in innovation, application and technological expertise. Together, we will continue to deliver innovative solutions that address the evolving needs of the food industry while upholding the highest standards of quality and sustainability,” says Gianluca Feraciti, founder of GLF.
The acquisition allows the entities to develop new products and expand their production capabilities.
“It will be a game changer for the growth of Kemin Food Technologies, offering synergies with our existing yield enhancement technologies and legacy products for shelf life and food safety. GLF offers a strong portfolio of meat solutions and a meat lab for application studies and technical support, allowing us to serve our customers with enhanced expertise,” says Daniele Abrate, president of Kemin Food Technologies, EMEA.
Intellectual property
In 2023, the European Patent Office granted Kemin Industries a patent for its neural health product, Neumentix. The patent extends Kemin’s intellectual property protection and has been validated in multiple member countries, including Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK.
The company also invested in US-based hemp producer Driftless Extracts and entered a hemp-based product supply agreement.
