InterHealth's Weight Loss Ingredient Performs Well in Study
The clinical research findings corroborate preclinical data demonstrating that LOWAT decreases adipogenesis (the generation and accumulation of fat cells) and facilitate lipolysis (break down of stored fat) in mature fat cells. LOWAT is also supported by extensive safety research.
Oct 13 2010 --- Creighton University School of Medicine researcher, Archana Chatterjee, MD, PhD, presented clinical research findings on InterHealth Nutraceutical's new weight management ingredient, LOWAT, at the 51st American College of Nutrition Meeting in New York City, October 7-9.
The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study compared the weight loss effects of 900 mg of LOWAT or a placebo on 50 people for eight weeks. "We found that LOWAT significantly reduced body weight more than twice as effectively as placebo," said Dr. Chatterjee. "Results occurred after two weeks, but significant weight loss of over 9 lbs was seen at eight weeks."
"We also measured two hormones the fat-burning hormone, adiponectin and the hunger-inducing hormone, ghrelin. Adiponectin levels were significantly increased by 15% compared to placebo and ghrelin levels were significantly decreased by 17%," said Dr. Chatterjee. "The increase in adiponectin is particularly compelling as this observation suggests a possible reduction in fat stores since adiponectin is inversely correlated with body fat percentage."
The study is expected to be published in a peer-reviewed journal in the near future. The clinical research findings corroborate preclinical data demonstrating that LOWAT decreases adipogenesis (the generation and accumulation of fat cells) and facilitate lipolysis (break down of stored fat) in mature fat cells. LOWAT is also supported by extensive safety research.
"A diverse range of Americans struggle with their weight and are increasingly focused on weight loss and weight management, making LOWAT's clinical research findings important and potentially impact," said Dr. Chatterjee. "With daily calorie reduction and moderate exercise, LOWAT supports people in their weight loss efforts."
InterHealth's Senior Vice President of Research and Development and CAN President, Debasis Bagchi, PhD, FACN, CNS, further acknowledged the importance of weight loss and weight management and the use of safe and effective weight management ingredients such as LOWAT to help in these efforts. "While healthy eating and moderate exercise are essential to weight management, they can be challenging for many consumers. Dietary supplement ingredients studied for their significant impact on weight loss may be an important part of successful weight management." As part of his ongoing research on weight management, Dr. Bagchi edited a book, "Obesity: Epidemiology, Pathophysiology and Prevention" for CRC Press/Taylor & Francis, which received positive reviews from JAMA and New England Journal of Medicine.
LOWAT, a patent-pending, fat-targeting, weight-management ingredient derived from the Ayurvedic plants Piper betle and Dolichos biflorus, will be introduced to the U.S. market at the upcoming Supply Side West show in Las Vegas.
