Health Claims for Fructose Approved
26 June 2013 --- June 2013 sees the European Union take a ground breaking step for food and beverage manufacturers using fructose, stating that: “Consumption of foods containing fructose leads to a lower blood glucose rise compared to foods containing sucrose or glucose.”
Supplier Galam notes that thousands of health claim applications were submitted to EFSA, however only approximately 200 were approved. EFSA’s decision, as published in the EU’s latest batch of article 13 health claims, allows companies substituting at least 30% of glucose or sucrose with fructose to now make this significant health claim.
This declaration is an important validation for the safety and health benefits of fructose. To view the regulation published in its entirety, in the Official Journal of the European Union (L160; 12 June 2013) click here.
Galam Group will continue to provide premium Non-GMO, crystalline fructose, derived from quality sugar cane or sugar beet sources, allowing our customers to keep on launching healthy, sweet and tasty reduced sugar/low GI products.
