Fenchem Expands PreFit Prebiotics
27 Aug 2013 --- Fenchem has expanded its prebiotics products with fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) and glacto- oligosaccharides (GOS). Similar to inulin, these two saccharides have now a long history of safe use and are generally recognized as safe.
FOS and GOS are new members of PreFit Prebiotics series. They occur naturally and are consist of short chains of fructose and galactose respectively. These compounds can be only partially digested by humans. Both FOS and GOS are available in syrup and powder form. Prebiotic formulas are also provided based on customer requirements.
In-Fibre organic inulin is the company’s traditional prebiotic product, meeting both United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program (NOP) and European Union standards.
A prebiotic was originally defined as a “non-digestible food ingredient that beneficially affects the host by selectively stimulating the growth and/or activity of one or a limited number of bacteria in the colon, and thus improves host health” (Gibson and Roberfroid, 1995).
