DSM Receives European Responsible Care Award From CEFIC

13 Oct 2015 --- DSM has been selected as the winner of the environment category at this year’s CEFIC European Responsible Care Awards. The award recognizes DSM’s success in implementing a sustainability program at its Dalry facility located on the west coast of Scotland, which is the only producer of vitamin C in the Western world and also manufactures vitamin B5.

The ceremony was held last week at a banquet dinner organized by the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) in Brussels, Belgium. Robert Ivatt (Sustainability Program Director) and Graeme Weir (Site Director) attended to collect the prestigious award on behalf of DSM Dalry.

As part of the initiative, DSM introduced a structured program that set clear environmental targets for the four year period through to 2015. The areas of focus for DSM included reducing emissions and nonhazardous landfill waste and improving energy efficiency and waste use.

Based on 2010 data for the Dalry site, the sustainability program introduced by DSM has had a significant impact. The targets set were achieved and even exceeded in some areas. For example, nutrient rich organic effluent sludge was recycled for use in land restoration and agriculture; reducing landfill waste by 90%. Similarly, DSM lowered its electrical consumption by eliminating its redundant equipment and ensuring all systems were in a good state of repair.

The initiatives at DSM’s Dalry site form part of its ongoing commitment to working to create a more sustainable business. Through its Quality for Life principles, DSM assures its customers that its vitamin B5 and vitamin C production is safe and meets expectations in terms of quality, reliability, traceability and sustainability.
