Darden Restaurants Announces Red Lobster and Olive Garden Converting to Zero Trans Fat Frying Oils
The new oils are zero trans fat and have a favorable combination of beneficial fatty acids - high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and low in saturated fat.
18/12/06 Darden Restaurants announced that it has plans in place to switch to trans fat free frying oil at all of its 1,267 Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurants in North America by the end of November 2007.
More than 100 Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurants across the country are already using the new canola oils. The action is the culmination of 18 months of extensive testing and consumer feedback.
"Our goal was to offer the healthful benefits of a zero trans fat oil while providing our guests with the great tasting food they deserve and have come to expect," said Clarence Otis, Darden's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Our balanced and disciplined process in making this change will have an enduring benefit for our guests."
