Curcugreen: Arjuna takes “full control of its supply chain” with BCM-95 rebrand
02 Oct 2018 --- Arjuna Natural Ltd. is to market its patented, bio-available turmeric extract, BCM-95, under the name Curcugreen in the US and Europe. The company has established a direct supply chain to the US, as BCM-95 was sold previously through an exclusive agreement with Dolcas Biotech. The turmeric extract experienced high growth levels compared to all other curcumin supplements, Arjuna Natural reports.
“Our flagship curcumin has been at the forefront of turmeric science for the past 15 years,” says Benny Antony, Ph.D., Joint Managing Director for Arjuna.
“It now has been rebranded as Curcugreen to reflect the spirit of a safe, high-bioavailability ingredient, backed with an eco-friendly approach through the use of solar energy and sustainable farming practices. Arjuna has taken full control of its supply chain.”
Arjuna, the manufacturer and owner of 29 patents on product composition, process and application will no longer supply the clinically proven composition to Dolcas Biotech. The change to new brand name will not affect the composition and quality of this unique curcumin, the company reports.
“Our priority is to ensure our customers and consumers that our patented composition – the safety and therapeutic benefits of which have been validated by more than 50 scientific studies – will continue to be available without any change in the composition,” says P.J. Kunjachan, Chairman and Managing Director for Arjuna.
“This change is to assure the highest quality product from farm to the customers. We shall continue the research on curcumin – the emerging molecule in the health food segment. We also noticed a significant leap in demand for natural coloring and natural preservatives and our new food ingredient division is rapidly growing,” Benny Antony, Joint Managing Director at Arjuna Natural Limited, tells NutritionInsight.
Earlier this year, Arjuna’s BCM-95 was granted the coveted EU treatment patent, for “composition for use in treatment,” issued by the European Patent Office (EPO). The grant is in addition to the 16 patents (13 in the US, two in Japan and one in Europe) that Arjuna already holds on its BCM-95 turmeric extracts.
Last year, BCM-95 was affirmed Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This confirms the safety profile of BCM-95 and cements it as a trusted, clean brand. BCM95 has been involved in 42 published studies and more than a dozen studies are ongoing, including pre-clinical and clinical studies on its multiple health benefits.
NutritionInsight recently interviewed Antony on the repercussions of the devastating Kerala floods on the herbal extracts industry.
