Sanitas Skincare harnesses biointelligence to launch vegan “micro-collagen” collection
26 Sep 2022 --- US-based Sanitas Skincare has developed Collagen + Elastin Recovery Mask and Collagen + Elastin Recovery Serum, which feature micro-collagens with a lower molecular weight that can penetrate the skin topically to lift sagging skin and reduce fine lines.
The formulations blend two types of bioidentical vegan micro-collagen, vegan tropoelastin (basic building block of elastin and elastic fibers) and eight molecular weights of hyaluronic acid.
Additionally, a colloidal gold delivery system bonded to vitamin C and peptides ensures all the ingredients are utilized and maximized by the skin.
“Until now, we’ve never featured collagen in our products because the molecular weight was too large to penetrate the skin effectively. Not only that, all of the available forms were either bovine or marine-derived, which doesn’t align with our values,” says Lisa Crary, owner and CEO at Sanitas Skincare.
“[Our team] discovered breakthrough forms of vegan collagen + elastin with a molecular weight 20 times smaller than forms traditionally available to us as manufacturers. These new ingredients penetrate the skin to help preserve and rebuild collagen.”
“Age-arrester”
The new micro-collagen formula was consumer-tested on 21 participants between the ages of 43 to 60 for four weeks, revealing a 72% decrease in crow’s feet and eye wrinkles.
Up to 49% improvement in texture, 30% decrease in visible pores, 24% reduction in redness and 27% decrease in spots were also noticed.
Another study found that the Collagen + Elastin Recovery Mask improved the look of fine lines after 15 minutes of wear time.
Furthermore, made to be used on the face, neck and chest, Collagen + Elastin Recovery Serum is a gentle exfoliator that minimizes pores and brightens dark spots, situating itself as a relevant product in the “glass skin” trend that focuses on glowing skin.
“[The products] provide visible results with one use of the mask and sustained results when the serum is used twice per day. These ingredient formulations also work synergistically to promote Type I collagen and fibronectin production,” the company states.
Moreover, the formulation is an “age-arrester” that doesn’t just reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles but reduces their depth and length while preventing the emergence of new ones.
Animal-free micro-collagen
According to Bioiberica, the collagen space has steadily increased the number of consumers taking a daily dose of collagen – up 8% in the US between 2019 and 2021.
Supporting this, Lonza acknowledges the collagen market is expected to maintain its upward trend, rising from US$3.5 billion in 2018 to US$16.7 billion by 2028.
Recently, The Roots Brands unveiled a collagen and colostrum blend of hydrolyzed bovine collagen and whole colostrum powder dubbed Give Me Back My Youth. The company stated that the collagen and colostrum were sourced from cows owing to their similarity to humans.
Also, researchers at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, uncovered the benefits of upcycling bullfrog skin into clinical-grade collagen to treat chronic wounds and promote skin healing.
Sanitas Skincare’s latest formulations are fully vegan as they employ bio-intelligent ingredients instead of commercially available collagen derived from an animal source such as bovine or pig. These ingredients make the products suitable for vegans and tap into the increasing bio-based development trends in the personal care industry.
