New Consumer Survey Reveals Dietary Supplement Awareness Opportunities

SupplySide West 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Naturally found in meat and dairy products, CLA has been shown to reduce weight and increase muscle mass in a variety of studies throughout the years. When 5135 consumers were asked if they were familiar with CLA sold as an active ingredient in the weight management/body composition category of dietary supplements, 16 percent of the 18-to-54 year old target demographic, and 12 percent of the general population respondents, said “yes.”
“Today, CLA has grown beyond its historical niche as an ingredient of choice for extreme athletes and is gaining popularity among the more mainstream sports nutrition customer. This is supported by the latest SPINS conventional channel report, which shows 93 percent of dollar percent change sales occurring in the Top 10 products. Although conventional channel retail sales showed a decline, the Top 10 products saw a 42 percent dollar growth,” said Robert Bailey, Global Commercial Development Manager at Stepan Lipid Nutrition. “These results pose an opportunity to continue to build consumer awareness, which is why Stepan continues to invest in research.
