The use of nutraceutical & functional ingredients in supplements & sports nutrition launches is increasing globally, featuring a 7% year-on-year growth when comparing the period from July 2021 to June 2023 launches. Two out of three launches with such ingredients were supplements, with caffeine (11%) being the leading ingredient. These ingredients were used the most in supplements with immune health (23%), brain-mood health (21%) and energy & stamina claims (20%).
The use of fiber ingredients in supplements & sports nutrition launches is increasing globally, featuring a 4% year-on-year growth in the period from July 2021 to June 2023. In the period from July 2022 to June 2023, supplements (65%) was the top subcategory for fiber ingredients. Many supplement launches with fiber ingredients featured an immune health claim.
The use of immunity support claims in supplements & sports nutrition launches is increasing globally at +13% annually over the last five years. Supplements accounted for most product launches in July 2022-June 2023 (88%), vitamin C was the leading ingredient (39%). In the same period, energy & stamina, brain-mood health and bone health held the top positionings, while product launches with a mental acuity claim experienced the strongest growth (+73%).
