A diet substituting animal products with plant-based foods — whether unprocessed or ultra-processed — and including soybeans can lead to significant weight loss and a reduction in severe hot flashes in postmenopausal women, according to new research published in the journal Menopause. “Avoiding animal products and instead eating vegan foods, including veggie burgers, breads and cereals, and fruits and vegetables, is a prescription for fighting hot flashes,” says Hana Kahleova, MD, PhD, director of clinical research for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
Scientists confirm heart health benefits of short-chain fatty acids

Researchers reveal the “first proof” that short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) significantly protect against cardiovascular disease and hypertension by up to 20%. SCFAs are released when gut bacteria break down dietary fiber. The study used data from 393,649 European participants in the UK Biobank database. The team identified rare genetic variants in participants that profoundly impacted the function of receptors bound to SFCAs, preventing people from using the cardiovascular protection offered by their gut microbes. 
Simple obesity solution suggests choosing meals that slow eating

A Japanese study has found that choosing the right type of meal rather than eating order changes chewing and meal duration. This offers insights on preventing obesity and highlights the importance of healthier eating habits.“Eating slowly is widely recommended for obesity prevention,” says lead researcher Professor Katsumi Iizuka at Fujita Health University. “But people often don’t know how to implement this advice. Our study shows that simply choosing the right type of meal, such as a bento instead of fast food, can naturally extend meal duration and encourage more mindful eating.”
